Carrapateena Mine Connection Civil Works Project

Site Location: Carrapateena Mine Site, 145km North of Port Augusta, SA
Client: OZ Minerals (Electranet / Ventia)
Duration: May 2018 – May 2019

OZ Minerals developed the Carrapateena Copper – Gold deposit in South Australia on the eastern edges of the Gawler Craton.

One of Australia’s largest undeveloped copper deposits, the project includes a 4.25Mtpa underground mining operation and associated infrastructure.

In order to provide the 55MW expected power required for the mine and infrastructure, OZ Minerals contracted Electranet as the region electricity network operator to provide a connection to the grid. Electranet, in turn, contracted Ventia to design the mine connection which involved constructing a 51km 132kV single circuit monopole transmission line and associated 123/11kV substation.

Inoteq successfully completed all civil works for this part of the project including all pole foundation and construction of the substation bench and foundation.

The project was completed successfully despite the many challenges faced, such as difficult access to the site, geotechnical complexity, logistics, vast areas of cultural heritage and working in a live mine environment.
